Telus launches tree planting initiative for every Android device purchase

Telus has launched an initiative that will see the telecom plant a tree for every new or certified pre-owned Android device purchased.

The Buy One, Plant One initiative, which will run from April 18 to May 16, will apply to Android devices purchased by either new or returning retail or business customers. It is available as a promotion at Telus and Koodo stores, online or through customer service representatives.

Telus said it aims to plant up to 50,000 trees, but will plant an additional tree for every pre-owned device traded in.

“This latest offer further highlights TELUS as a leader in sustainability and another step towards becoming carbon neutral in our operations across the organization by 2030,” Telus said in a press release. “To date, TELUS has planted over 11 million trees and more than 500k kelp plants, which is the size of 7,200 hectares of land in total, and equivalent to 18 Stanley Parks or 60% of the City of Vancouver.”

The telecom says on its website that it has planted 11.3 million trees over the past two decades.

It also said it has removed 15 million devices from landfills and upcycled and recycled 15 million mobile devices since 2010.
