Telus launches SmartHome+ beta program

Telus said Tuesday it is looking for tech enthusiasts and environmentally conscious Canadians to join its Telus SmartHome+ Beta program that it said will help shape future smart home technology.

Participants in the beta program will get an exclusive look at Telus’s new SmartEnergy product, “an innovative, first of its kind product in Canada that enables customers to save on their energy bills,” according to an emailed announcement.

“Participants will also get early access to our new Home View smart camera plan, which uses AI technology to detect and differentiate between various types of motion, such as humans, animals or vehicles, and alerts homeowners when a familiar face is detected or a package is delivered,” the announcement said. “These benefits contribute to a more efficient and effective home security system, offering our customers greater peace of mind and control over their homes even when they are away.”

Customers signing up for the beta program will also receive free smart home devices and special discounts to Telus SmartHome+ subscription plans, as well as incentives such as savings on monthly energy bills and a chance to earn Telus rewards for providing feedback on products and participating in surveys that will help Telus evolve its service offerings, Telus said.

Interested customers can now sign up for the program, and eligible customers will be contacted directly to enroll.
