VANCOUVER — Telus is officially getting into the smart home and business security market with the launch of its Telus SmartHome Security and Telus Secure Business solutions.
The announcement comes after the company’s recent acquisition of AlarmForce customers in Western Canada. Earlier this year, Telus purchased approximately 39,000 AlarmForce customer accounts in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan from Bell Canada.
Telus SmartHome Security and Telus Secure Business are replacing the AlarmForce brand in the western provinces and are available now in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, Telus said in a news release. Both solutions are fully managed through a smartphone app, which provides a system dashboard for quick access to alerts, status updates and controls for automated devices. The app also allows for 24/7 two-way voice monitoring, instantly connecting the customer’s smartphone to the monitoring service when an alarm is triggered, Telus said.
“Telus has a long history of delivering innovative technologies to both consumers and businesses and we are proud to now offer security and automation solutions to help protect what matters most and streamline control of connected devices,” said Jason Macdonnell, senior vice-president, Telus Smart Security, in the news release. “Powered by our award-winning networks and entirely controlled from a smartphone app, Telus’s security solutions provide integrated, flexible systems to make our customers feel safe, empowered and in control.”
Telus SmartHome Security is a highly customizable solution that residential customers can tailor with a selection of indoor and outdoor cameras, smart locks, connected lighting, doorbell cameras, window and door sensors, smart thermostats, garage door controllers, and smoke, flood and carbon monoxide detectors, Telus said. Users are also able to interact with their system via voice assistants such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa and create custom “scenes” that run multiple commands at once. For example, from a single voice command, a customer could initiate a “goodnight” scene that instructs the system to lower the heat on the thermostat, turn off the lights, lock the doors and arm the security panel.
Telus Secure Business provides small businesses with a suite of integrated smart automation, intrusion monitoring and video surveillance solutions. Telus Secure Business leverages the same 24/7 professional monitoring and guard response service as Telus SmartHome Security, augmenting it with powerful policy and control capabilities that allow business owners and managers to operate more efficiently and better manage risk, Telus said. With Telus Secure Business, a restaurant owner could be notified when a fridge or freezer is left open, or retail managers can ensure their stores were opened on time and can see who opened them.
Customers who have both Telus Mobility and other Telus home solutions products could pay as little as $25 per month on a three-year term for their SmartHome Security solution, Telus said. Telus Secure Business plans start at $35 per month on a fixed term when bundled with small business wireless and wireline services, Telus added.
