VICTORIA and QUEBEC CITY — Telus Communications announced today it is investing more than $100 million combined in Victoria, B.C. and the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec this year to further support residents and businesses in those communities through the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent economic recovery.
In Greater Victoria, Telus is investing $63 million in 2021 as part of its $13 billion investment in infrastructure and operations across British Columbia through 2024. The company’s investments in Greater Victoria include expanding its 5G network, building new wireless infrastructure, and connecting more households and businesses to its gigabit-enabled PureFibre network, says a press release.
“Telus is proud to make this generational investment in Greater Victoria, providing the technology to connect citizens to loved ones, as well as vital resources and information as we continue to navigate the global pandemic,” said Darren Entwistle, president and CEO of Telus, in the press release.
In a separate announcement, Telus says it is investing $38 million in infrastructure in Quebec’s Capitale-Nationale region in 2021, as part of its plan to invest $9 billion in the province of Quebec through 2024.
Telus also announced it has expanded its 5G network to Quebec City and plans to roll out 5G to 20 other communities in the Capitale-Nationale region this year including Baie-Saint-Paul, Beaupré, Boischatel, Fossambault-sur-le-Lac, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, and Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury.
“Now more than ever, Telus is committed to keeping Canadians connected, productive and healthy. Indeed, the ongoing expansion of our next-generation 5G technology is bridging time and distance, allowing residents to live and work in any community without compromising productivity or economic opportunity,” says Entwistle.
