Telus Health introduces new medical alert system to help older adults age in place

VANCOUVER – Telus Health on Tuesday unveiled its next-generation medical alert system, comprised of a discreet wearable pendant and connected caregiver app, designed to support older Canadians as they age in place.

Providing users with peace of mind knowing emergency support is available 24/7 at the push of a button, the newly designed Telus Health Medical Alert Pendant has the longest battery life of any mobile medical alert device in Canada and an enhanced fall detection feature for an added layer of security, according to a Telus Health press release.

Falls are the leading cause of injury and injury-related hospitalizations among older Canadians over 65 years of age, according to a National Institute on Ageing study conducted for Telus Health and cited in the press release.

The connected caregiver app allows those who care for aging loved ones to receive updates about the pendant user’s daily routines, mobility and whereabouts when necessary, thanks to the pendant’s advanced GPS-enabled location tracking capability.

“We want to empower older adults to navigate life’s changes with greater ease by leveraging thoughtful advancements in technology, resources and expertise,” Dr. Keir Peterson, chief medical officer at Telus Health, said in the release. “By supporting independence and dignity in aging, we can contribute to the thriving of older people in Canada, while simultaneously providing their caregivers and cherished loved ones with a profound sense of reassurance.”

The new Telus Health Medical Alert Pendant offers multiple pricing options starting at $60 per month. More information is available here.
