Telus Health expands MyCare virtual counselling services to Quebec

MONTREAL — Telus Health announced today the expansion of its MyCare mental health counselling services to Quebec residents, who can now speak to provincially licensed, bilingual counsellors from home.

Citing research from the Institut national de santé publique du Québec, Telus Health says in a press release that 20% of the Quebec population will experience a mental illness during their lifetime and less than half of the people who experience mental illness consult a professional.

Other data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information shows, since the start of the pandemic, “half of Canadians waited up to one month for counselling services in the community, while 1 in 10 waited more than four months,” according to Telus Health’s press release.

“Now, more than ever, people need accessible, convenient mental health support to live their healthiest, best lives. We offer simple, direct access to caring mental health professionals. From daily challenges to more severe conditions, we help you take control of your mental wellbeing,” Chris Engst, managing director of consumer health at Telus Health, said in the release.

“Talking to a trained professional, such as a counsellor, is one of the best ways to recover from a mental health issue. It’s so important for patients to speak to a counsellor anywhere and anytime that works for them,” said Dr. Matthew Chow, Telus Health’s mental health medical director for consumer health.

All Telus Health MyCare counsellors are highly experienced, according to the press release. Sessions are 50 minutes and cost $120 plus taxes, and are covered by most extended healthcare plans, the release says.
