Telus grabs a North America first

TORONTO – Expanding its HTC smartphone portfolio, Telus today became the first mobile company in North America to offer the new HTC Touch – a brand new touch-screen, simple to use smart phone.

The small and stylish handset uses an intuitive touch screen navigation and a three dimensional user interface that brings to mind the ease of use of the iPhone. A few swipes of the thumb can easily bring up contacts lists, audio, video and web browsing. A few more swipes can rotate and amplify photos and manipulate videos,

The announcement also expands Telus’ portfolio of devices powered by Windows Mobile 6 software and reaffirms Telus as Canada’s leading supplier of HTC smartphones.

The handset (pictured) features a new underlying screen gesture technology called TouchFLO. Developed by HTC, TouchFLO enables smooth finger touch scrolling and navigation of menus, lists, web pages, documents, messages and more. Consumers simply sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications.

The HTC Touch is available for as low as $180 on a three-year contract until November 1 and subject to promotional requirements, or $500 without a contract.

Telus today announced the exclusive availability of the HTC S640 smartphone, which boasts much of the functions of the Touch, but with a full QWERTY keyboard.

The HTC S640 is now available for $150 on a three-year contract until November 1 subject to promotional requirements, or $450 without a contact.
