TORONTO – Telus is once again teaming up with The Globe and Mail on a contest aimed at shining a spotlight on Canada's brightest entrepreneurs and the challenges they face.

The fifth annual Small Business Challenge wants to hear from Canadian small business owners for the opportunity to win a $100,000 grand prize from Telus.  From now until June 1, small businesses are invited to submit their biggest business challenge and explain how they would use $100,000 to help them overcome it.  Five shortlisted semi-finalists will pitch to a panel of successful entrepreneurs and small business experts in Toronto on June 25 and the winner will be announced on September 17, 2015.  Following this, the ‘Most Promising Start-Ups’ will be announced on September 23, and ten regional awards will be given out during Small Business Month in October.

"Small businesses are the backbone of the Canadian economy. Telus is committed to helping them succeed”, said Telus’ VP of small business solutions Suzanne Trusdale, in the news release.  “For the past five years, the Small Business Challenge has helped innovative Canadian companies overcome their challenges and reach extraordinary heights."

The contest attracts more than 1,000 entries annually, and last year’s winner Vancouver Island Salt Co. took home the $100,000 award for its environmentally friendly plans to take Canadian artisan sea salt global.
