VANCOUVER – Dow Jones has ranked Telus among the world’s top economic, environmental and social leaders by naming the company to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the seventh year in a row.
Telus is the only North American telecommunications company on it and one of just 10 Canadian businesses across all sectors included in the global index.
The index’s judges gave Telus high marks for corporate governance, risk and crisis management, privacy protection, environmental reporting, human capital development and stakeholder engagement, says the company’s press release.
“At Telus, we are committed to being a good corporate citizen and to taking a leadership role. For us, this means we strive to proactively incorporate sustainability issues into business and management decisions,” said Robert McFarlane, Telus executive vice-president and CFO, in the release. “It is rewarding to receive international recognition for our efforts for the seventh year in a row. It reaffirms our commitment to implement practices that help us achieve long-term-sustainable growth, protect the environment and improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.”
Companies included in the DJSI ranking “actively lead their industries in setting best practices in strategy, innovation, governance and relations with shareholders, employees and other stakeholders. The annual review is based on a thorough assessment of companies’ performance and accounts for more than 50 general as well as industry-specific criteria. The results influence the investment decisions of asset managers in 15 countries who have licensed the DJSI family as objective benchmarks for a variety of sustainability-driven portfolios,” says the release.
