Telus Fund names Leah Camenzind as new executive director

Telus Fund, a Certified Independent Production Fund that administers Telus’s financial contributions in support of Canadian content promoting health and well-being, announced Wednesday it has appointed media executive Leah Camenzind as its new executive director.

She succeeds Elizabeth Friesen, who is retiring after more than 12 years at the helm of Telus Fund since its inception in 2013.

“Camenzind brings a proven track record of launching, leading, and transforming film funds, with deep expertise at the intersection of storytelling, impact, and strategic investment in Canadian content,” reads a Telus Fund announcement. “Her appointment signals an exciting evolution for the Fund, leveraging her experience as managing production executive of TELUS originals and co-founder of TELUS independent, having stewarded more than $15 million in strategic investments that produced more than 100 films and series, generating over 350 film festival selections, 100 awards and acquisitions by major platforms including Paramount+ Canada, CBC Gem, TVO, Knowledge Network, and Hollywood Suite.”

In her new role as executive director of Telus Fund, Camenzind oversees finance, operations and program design of the fund.

“Now is our time to deepen our investments in home-grown storytelling that captivates Canadians and audiences around the world,” Camenzind said in statement. “I’m honoured to join TELUS Fund and build on Elizabeth’s remarkable foundation.”

“Leah’s appointment marks an important next step in TELUS Fund’s evolution,” said Jack Shute, chair of the Telus Fund board. “Her strategic mindset and steady leadership will help ensure the Fund continues to grow its impact and remain a trusted partner to both producers and the audiences they serve.”

“There’s never been a more critical time to support creators. Leah brings the clarity and conviction this moment demands and a deep commitment to helping producers reach and move their audiences,” said Juggy Sihota, board director of the Telus Fund and senior vice president at Telus.

Telus Fund’s press release announcing Camenzind’s appointment said Elaine Jacques and Shay Wilson will continue in their roles as senior analysts, providing continuity for producers and ongoing projects.

Telus Fund is currently accepting funding applications from Canadian producers with health and well-being focused projects until Sept. 26.
