KAMLOOPS, OSOYOOS, KELOWNA, LAC-MÉGANTIC and WOOD BUFFALO – Telus announced today it is investing in several communities across Canada, bringing its PureFibre network to more residents and businesses and expanding access to its 5G network.
The investments include $14 million to roll out its PureFibre network to 1,500 homes and businesses in Quebec’s Granit Regional County Municipality and for ongoing support for organizations and vulnerable families in the Estrie region, according to a press release.
The company specifies Frontenac, Lac-Mégantic and Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton, as well as select households on the outskirts of Audet and Lac-Drolet will benefit from this announcement.
The Canadian and Quebec governments are contributing an additional $5 million to this project through Operation High-Speed.
In a separate press release, Telus announced it is working with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo on a $21-million project bringing its PureFibre network to Wood Buffalo, Alberta. The regional municipality is contributing $13.2 million of the funding and Telus is contributing the rest. This represents “one of the single largest partnerships between TELUS and a municipality to expand connectivity,” the release says.
Telus anticipates “more than 90% of homes and businesses within the footprint will be connected by the end of 2023,” according to the release. The network will connect “residents and businesses in Anzac, Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, Conklin Métis, Draper, Fort McKay First Nation, Fort McKay Métis, Fort McMurray First Nation, Gregoire Lake Estates, Janvier Métis, and Willow Lake Métis directly to gigabit Internet speeds while expanding cellular coverage throughout the region.”
Construction on the project will begin this summer.
