Telus EVP headlines Vancouver’s Broadband World Forum

CHICAGO – The inaugural Broadband World Forum Americas will be held in Vancouver, September 11 to 14.

Fittingly, the region’s main telco, Telus, will play a prominent role. EVP technology strategy Eros Spadotto will be one of the speakers and will talk about the latest technology developments "simplifying consumers’ lives and creating powerful business tools," says the conference’s press release.

The Broadband World Forum Americas is aimed at information and communications technology (ICT) specialists and run by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC).

“Eros and his colleagues at Telus have an exciting vision of the future. They look at technology in terms of what it can do for their customers – how it can make their lives better and their businesses stronger,” said IEC president John Janowiak. “Eros’ refreshing customer-centric approach means he talks about technology in real terms, painting a picture of tomorrow that is compelling in its simplicity and electrifying in its promise. We are pleased to bring our broadband show to the Americas, especially after such an overwhelmingly popular response from our broadband shows in Europe and Asia.”

Telus has participated in the previous Broadband World Forums held in Europe and Asia and found them valuable, Spadotto said in the release.

“This conference is an absolute requirement for anyone who wants to know what the leading thinkers and creators in our industry are working on,” Spadotto said. “If you want insight into tomorrow’s technology, this conference is for you.”

Ibrahim Gedeon, chief technology officer of Telus, will welcome attendees at the Broadband World Forum Americas on Monday, September 11 at 1 p.m. Following Gedeon’s address, Spadotto will speak about the vast potential of the broadband world, discussing how technology will dramatically change lives forever, enabling businesses to operate more effectively and consumers to enjoy more freedom, more power, and more choices.

“This is the most exciting time ever to be in this business,” he said in the press release. “We are on the cusp of a new era in communications. The future that is emerging is one that is being shaped by the needs, desires, and demands of our customers, and broadband technology is making it all possible.”

As a member of the Telus technology team, Spadotto leads the creation and execution of Telus’ integrated wireline and wireless technology strategy and evolution. In this role, he is responsible for determining Telus’ overall technology direction. Spadotto identifies opportunities, establishes the long-term direction of Telus networks, and implements new technologies and services such as Telus TV and CDMA wireless broadband services. He also leads a team responsible for designing the converged network for Telus.

Other keynoters at the Broadband World Forum Americas are Mark Wegleitner, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Verizon Communications, and Peter Barrett, chief technology officer and general manager of Microsoft Corporation. Other featured speakers include Christian Unterberger, president of Fixed Networks at Siemens Communications, Stephen Vogelsang, vice president of Marketing and Product Management at ECI Telecom, Berndt Baumgartl, president and CEO at Siemens Communications USA, and Stephen Ackroyd, President of Yummy Interactive, Inc.
