VANCOUVER – Bollywood content, news, cricket updates, entertainment and cultural information direct from South Asia are now options on Telus mobile phones.
The Canadian telco and Reliance Communications, India’s largest integrated telecom service provider, says the press release, today announced Apna Des, a mobile phone based content site is now available to Telus wireless customers.
"Apna Des offers Telus clients a complete South Asian mobile experience that brings together the best of Bollywood and the latest updates on news and cricket, while respecting the region’s incredible cultural depth," said Robert Blumenthal, Telus senior vice-president of products and services, in a press release.
"Canada’s burgeoning South Asian community, which is close to a million people strong, has expressed their desire for services and entertainment that reflect their culture. In an effort to bring an experience that appeals to first generation and second generation South Asian Canadians, Telus felt it needed to go beyond the clichéd content, which only Reliance was in a position to deliver. By using Reliance India Live!, a mobile content portal specifically customized to make it more relevant to Canadians, Telus is well equipped to address the interests of South Asian Canadians."

Users can stay informed with news updates and video clips refreshed hourly, regional information, entertainment industry gossip, astrology, numerology, spiritual information and vaastu shashtra updated weekly.
In addition to special Diwali content, until November 30, 2006 Apna Des users have the opportunity to win a trip for two to their choice of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, simply by downloading images or ring tones from Apna Des.
