Telus Agriculture powers Persephone’s most sustainable brew yet

VANCOUVER – Telus Agriculture and Persephone Brewing Company announced yesterday the release of the Pollinator Pilsner, a sustainable brew made by Persephone and powered by Telus Agriculture.

“We worked with Persephone’s farming partners to apply technology and production cultivation strategies like precision insights from weather stations, satellite imaging, soil analysis, and traceability software,” said Remi Schmaltz director of business development for North America at Telus Agriculture, in a press release.

“This allows the farmers to get the most from their land with the least environmental impact while also ensuring that the barley used in the Pollinator Pilsner was sustainably produced from the planting of the seed, to harvesting, right through to the malting, brewing, and packaging process.”

These solutions have given Persephone’s customers verified traceability by enabling them “to easily explore the production process from seed to sip with QR code,” according to the press release.

Persephone is Canada’s only farm-based Certified B-Corp Brewery.

“Sustainability is a core driver for us in everything we do and we know it’s important to our customers too, so we’re thrilled to be able to provide them with the ability to have more line of sight into the stages of production,” said Brian Smith, CEO and owner of Persephone Brewing Company, in the press release.

The Pollinator Pilsner is described in the press release as being “a bright, crisp, and refreshing pilsner-style lager with a light note of bread crust from the small batch pilsner malt.” The drink’s organic hops give “aromas of green tea and juicy pear,” while local honey provides “a subtle floral note.” It is available in select stores in B.C. and at the Beer Farm in Gibsons.
