Telus adds dial-around long distance option

TORONTO – Telus Mobility and Telehop have finalized an agreement allowing Telus’ wireless customers to select Telehop's dial-around long distance services.

By dialing #100 and then entering the destination number, mobile customers will be charged for a Telehop per minute long distance calling plan which includes 0.05 per minute calling to destinations such as China, India, Israel, Mexico, Australia and most of Europe.  Long distance rates to Pakistan, Vietnam, Russia and South Africa are 0.10 per minute, while calls to Jamaica and Trinidad are 0.15 per minute and 0.20 per minute, respectively.  The charges will appear on the customer's regular mobile invoice.

"This agreement is an important first and an opportunity to take our traditional 10-10-100 and 10-10-620 calling services to the next level," said Telehop president and CEO Rajiv Jagota, in Monday’s announcement.  "We recognize that mobile usage is increasing and we're pleased to extend our flexible long distance plans to Canadian mobile customers. Consumers will appreciate this new, easy-to-use service which makes international calling from their cellphone more affordable."

Telehop added that the partnership is expected to result in “significant” revenue growth, and has agreed to a minimum revenue commitment for overseas call fees of $25 million over the five year term of the contract.
