Telesat to launch Anik F1R on Sept. 8

TORONTO – Telesat Canada plans to launch the Anik F1R satellite on the evening of Sept. 8, the company has announced. Senior Telesat staff will be at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan for the launch of Anik F1R, the company’s first European-built satellite. The satellite will provide much-needed broadcasting and telecommunications capacity with 24 C-band and 32 Ku-band communications channels, allowing services such as direct-to-home satellite TV services. It’s the first Telesat satellite to carry a navigation payload — (NAV) C and L-band — that will enhance the operation of GPS air traffic control.
