Telefilm Canada announced Wednesday it is investing $14.1 million in 26 feature film projects in the English market under its Production Program in the low-budget stream, which includes international co-productions.
Of the 21 feature films selected for funding that are not co-productions with other countries, 10 are being produced in Ontario, two in Nova Scotia, one in Newfoundland and Labrador, one in Alberta, two in British Columbia, two in Quebec, one in Manitoba and Quebec, one in Saskatchewan and Quebec, and one in Saskatchewan and Ontario.
The five international co-productions include a majority co-production between Canada and Colombia being produced in Quebec, and four minority co-productions between Canada and France, Bulgaria, Netherlands and Italy, three of which are being produced in Quebec and one in Ontario.
A full list of the projects, including the directors, screenwriters and production companies involved, is available here.
Telefilm said in a press release it received “an increasingly high volume of applications under the Production Program this year.” In this first intake, a total of 187 projects were assessed in the low-budget stream including international co-productions, representing more than $106 million in funding requests, it said.
More funding decisions, including projects from the low-budget Indigenous Stream, will be announced in the coming weeks, Telefilm said.
