Telecom Hall of Fame officially launches


OTTAWA – Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame today announced the launch of www.telecomhall.ca, the new web site which celebrates Canada’s legacy of success and achievement in the telecommunications industry.

The site pays homage to the technological, scientific, policy, business and entrepreneurial genius of Canada’s telecommunications sector, and honors the inventors and innovators, the business pioneers and builders, the unsung heroes and the success stories of this remarkable and vibrant Canadian industry.

The web site features:

The Hall of Fame Virtual Tour: Explore and discover some of the greatest contributors to Canadian telecommunications. View photos, videos and biographies of the inaugural Class of 2005 Telecom Laureates inducted October 2005:

• Inventors and Innovators: Alexander Graham Bell; Reginald Aubrey Fessenden
• Icons of Business: Terence Mathews; Charles Fleetford Sise
• Servants of the Public: David Colville; John Chapman

Living Stories: A chance for the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who have pursued careers in the Canadian telecommunications industry to tell their stories, anecdotes, recollections and living history about the Canadian telecommunications industry, its companies, its people and its achievements.

Canada’s National Telecom Portal: Canada’s comprehensive resource portal featuring interactive discussion boards, research, information, events, forums and thousands of links all relating to the telecommunication industry in Canada and abroad. Our forum includes an interactive board allowing members of the industry, past and present to re-connect with their former colleagues at more than 70 Canadian telecommunications companies.

On-Line Hall of Fame Laureate Nomination Forms: Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame encourages nominations for its Telecom Laureates Program throughout the year from individuals, businesses, organizations and others. Make your nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame. Nominations posted on or before March 15, 2006 will be eligible for consideration for the Telecom Laureates Class of 2006 to be inducted in October 2006 at the 2006 Telecom Laureate Awards.

Education and Outreach Program: The continual growth and development of the Education and Outreach Program will promote the success and innovation of Canada’s telecommunications industry and educate Canadians young and old about our country’s rich history and heritage as a world leader in telecommunications since the 1840s, almost 30 years before Confederation!

Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit corporation founded on May 30, 2005. The objectives of Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame are to recognize, celebrate and promote Canada’s illustrious history and heritage of telecommunications achievements and innovations; to honor the careers of those who have contributed to the Canadian industry’s proud legacy of success; and to ensure that Canadians young and old, as well as the global community appreciate the pre-eminent role that Canada has played and continues to play in the realm of telecommunications.

Day to day activities of the Hall of Fame are the responsibility of staff members, volunteers and various operational committees comprised of well-respected and independent members of the industry.

Fundraising for Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame (CTHOF) is the role of the CTHOF Foundation, a CRA registered charitable, Not-For-Profit corporation to be governed by a blue-ribbon Board of Governors comprised of both senior executives and former leaders of Canada’s telecommunications industry. To help support the activities of the Hall of Fame, tax-deductible donations to CTHOF can be made on-line at the www.telecomhall.ca web site, or by phone or mail.

The accomplishments of Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame since may 2005 are the direct result of many individuals and corporations who have generously offered their support and assistance. The Hall of Fame continues to welcome new industry leaders, sponsors, partners and volunteers wishing to participate to:

• Organize the annual Telecom Laureate Awards induction ceremonies and gala dinner
• Sit on the Hall of Fame’s Industry Advisory Board
• Develop the Hall of Fame’s Education and Outreach Program
