MONTREAL – Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame announced today that it will confer its Career Service Award on Dr. Gilles Y. Delisle, P.Eng., a highly-respected telecommunications engineer and educator who has devoted more than three decades to sharing his expertise with students in Quebec and eastern Ontario and the developing world.
Dr. Delisle, currently Vice-President Research at the Montreal-based International Institute of Telecommunications, will be honoured at the 2007 Telecom Laureate Awards gala dinner and Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, October 16, 2007, at Windsor Station in Montreal.
"We are delighted to recognize the tremendous role that Gilles Delisle has played in advancing telecommunications engineering, education and research throughout Quebec and eastern Ontario," said Lorne Abugov, founder of Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame, in the release. "Dr. Delisle is a most worthy recipient of our Career Service Award for his tireless efforts to train a whole generation of our industry’s best and brightest engineers."
Prior to joining the IIT in July 2004, Dr. Delisle enjoyed a lengthy career as an educator in the field of telecommunications engineering in Quebec and Eastern Ontario, most recently as Director and Professor at the School of Information Technology and Engineering at the University of Ottawa from 2002 to 2004. He has headed the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Laval University, Quebec, Canada, was Director of INRS-Telecommunications, a research institute of the Universite du Quebec and has supervised the work of over a hundred graduate and post-graduate students in the last 30 years. Dr. Delisle also sits on numerous engineering councils and associations and was awarded the prestigious "Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service" by the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers in 2004.
