MONTREAL – Quebec’s public cultural and educational television network Télé-Québec has bought the broadcast rights to British miniseries The Honourable Woman from BBC Worldwide North America.

Co-produced by BBC and Sundance TV, the nine-episode series stars Maggie Gyllenhaal in the role that won her the 2015 Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie.  The series, which will air in 2016 in its French-language version Une femme honorable, traces the story of one woman’s brazen quest to right the wrongs inflicted on her family, against a backdrop of paranoia and espionage.

“Télé-Québec has a proven record of presenting event television from around the world: Homeland, Wallander, 24 and Millénium, adapted from Stieg Larsson’s novels, are among the series that have enthralled our viewers over the years,” said Télé-Québec’s director of acquisitions Geneviève Royer, in the news release.  “In that same vein, we are especially pleased to add this new, exceptionally well produced thriller to our program line-up. Une femme honorable is television drama at its very best: each episode is sure to stay in the viewer’s mind for a long time to come.”
