CHATHAM, ON – TekSavvy Solutions is aiming to rally public support around the Feds’ recent directive to the CRTC to improve the affordability of Internet and cellphone services for Canadians.
On Friday, the scrappy independent ISP launched a new website entitled Pay Less To Connect that asks consumers to input some personal information to create a form letter addressed to their MP urging them “to support the new Policy Direction and to protect consumer interests.”
“The current system isn't working,” reads the form letter. “The CRTC needs to better serve Canadians, and put our interests first – ahead of the large telecom companies. I want and expect the CRTC to promote competition and affordability and to be held accountable for its actions. Otherwise, we won't have any real choice and my bills will continue to eat up more and more of my household budget.”
As Cartt.ca readers will recall, TekSavvy has been vocal in its support of an application by the Canadian Network Operators Consortium (CNOC) challenging the CRTC’s wholesale wireline services decision.
"Our mission is to bring Canadians real choice at a fair price – that's hard to do when a handful of giant telcos game the regulatory system to shut out competition," said TekSavvy founder and CEO Marc Gaudrault, in a statement. "So when the federal government stands up for consumers, we think it's important to inform the public and offer online tools that make it easy for them to have their say."
