FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Tbaytel Fibre is now available to homes and businesses in Fort Frances, a town of about 7,800 right near the border with Minnesota, about 350 kms from Thunder Bay. The move brings it in direct competition with regional incumbents Shaw and Bell.

Tbaytel announced 11 months ago it would be embarking on a project to add wireline fibre services to its existing mobility offering in the Fort Frances area and since that time, the city of Thunder Bay-owned company has completed a regional network centre along with the new fibre runs.

Customers in Fort Frances now have access to Tbaytel’s five-product telecommunications bundle – including mobility, home phone, Internet, TV and security. The company is the only one offering such a five-product bundle in the region.

“Council recognized the need to enhance our information infrastructure capabilities a number of years ago when we developed our most recent strategic plan,” said Town of Fort Frances councillor Ken Perry in the Tbaytel press release. “One of our main goals was to support economic and community development by looking at the potential of advanced broadband infrastructure through the installation of a fibre optic network so when we originally learned that Tbaytel was planning to start this project, we were thrilled about what that would mean for our community.”

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and it absolutely would not have been possible without the support and positive working relationships established with key community partners here in Fort Frances,” added Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh.
