WINNIPEG — All Access 2020, On Screen Manitoba’s media production industry forum, is running from January 13 to 15 and includes top-level executives, directors and creators among its list of featured speakers.
“The focus is on Canadian content at All Access 2020,” says On Screen Manitoba executive director and event producer, Nicole Matiation. “Some 100 national and local industry professionals will speak along with several presenters from Europe, who will discuss coproduction opportunities.”
All Access 2020 offers two programming streams: one for the English-language market and one for the French-language market. Each stream provides panels, interviews and case studies on key industry trends including inclusivity, shifting business models, international coproduction, digital marketing strategies, web series and podcasts. Total attendance at the intimate three-day industry forum is expected to be about 300, organizers say.
Sessions include a bilingual feature interview with Catherine Tait, president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, and a feature panel titled “What is the future of Canadian Content?” introduced by Christa Dickenson, executive director of Telefilm Canada, and moderated by Valerie Creighton, president and CEO of the Canada Media Fund, with Kyle Irving (Eagle Vision) and directors Jim Donovan and Warren P. Sonoda.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s executive director, Beth Janson, will interview producers Lisa Meeches (Eagle Vision) and Josée Vallée (Sphère Média Plus) in an “Academy Talks: Success | Cross Cultural Opportunity” presentation. Reynolds Mastin, president and CEO of CMPA, moderates a panel on “Shifting business models” with Josette Normandeau (Idéacom International), Kyle Bornais (Farpoint Films) and Jamie Brown (Frantic Films) in English, and a similar panel takes place with French-language production companies, featuring Janelle Wookey (Wookey Films), Stéphane Gabrièle (Orange Iceberg Media) and Rayne Zuckerman (Zazie Films).
Other panels include a presentation by Jesse Wente and Kerry Swanson of the Indigenous Screen Office on best practices for engaging with Indigenous filmmakers, producers and communities. Adriana Chartrand of imagineNATIVE provides a similar presentation in the French-language market stream. Newly appointed CEO of the National Screen Institute – Canada, Joy Loewen, moderates a panel on inclusivity behind and in front of the camera.
