EDMONTON and LONDON – While still under court protection from its creditors, Super Channel has announced plans to create and distribute a new channel for video game fans in partnership with UK-based media company GINX eSportsTV.
The new 24-hour eSports channel, scheduled to launch nationally in early summer, will target Canadian gaming enthusiasts and players with live eSports events, news, and gaming lifestyle programming. It will be part of Super Channel’s four multiplexed channels and be available to all Super Channel subscribers as part of their existing package. New customers may subscribe through their TV service provider.
“We are striving to provide unique and relevant entertainment for all members of the household on all devices – and eSports is now a key part of this mix,” said Super Channel COO Don McDonald, in the news release. “Our new venture with GINX allows us to provide Canadian viewers with world-class eSports TV, including the shows, events and hosts already enjoyed the world-over. It also provides the Canadian production community with an excellent opportunity to create new eSports content, to be seen on Super Channel and potentially distributed around the world through GINX worldwide.”
The GINX/Super Channel deal was unveiled Wednesday at the ESports BAR global marketplace event in Cannes, France. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The GINX eSportsTV channel is currently available in over 36 million households in nine languages across some 41 territories.
