Super Channel restructures, hires three new staff

EDMONTON – Pay TV network Super Channel announced Tuesday an internal restructuring that sees its current revenue, marketing and creative services departments combined and the appointment of Tanuka Roy as chief operating officer, overseeing the newly formed department.

Roy joined Super Channel in January 2023 as the media company’s new chief revenue officer. In that role, she was responsible for leading Super Channel’s move into new platforms and revenue streams, including FAST channels, and developing the company’s relationships with BDU affiliates through cooperative marketing campaigns.

In her new role as COO, she now adds oversight of Super Channel’s consumer marketing and creative services functions, according to a press release. Her appointment was effective as of July 24, and she continues to be based in Toronto reporting to Super Channel president and CEO Don McDonald.

“Tanuka has been a very valuable addition to our Executive Team since joining us earlier this year and has hit the ground running as we position ourselves to adopt new platforms and revenue streams,” McDonald said in the release. “This restructuring will allow our Revenue, Marketing and Creative Services teams to work more synergistically under Tanuka’s leadership as we continue to grow and evolve in the ever-changing media landscape.”

Super Channel also announced the hiring of three new staff members — two coming from Bell and one from Telus.

Stacey Brooks is Super Channel’s new director of marketing, responsible for the company’s direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns, on-air promotion, digital marketing strategies including all social media platforms, and corporate and channel-specific branding. She reports to Roy.

Brooks is joining Super Channel from Bell Canada, where she held various senior-level marketing positions over a span of 16 years. Most recently, she was senior manager of marketing communications for Bell Consumer Services, “responsible for leading a team in the development and execution of mass awareness and digital marketing campaigns across wireless and wireline portfolios,” the release says.

Also reporting to Roy, Eva Lonoza and Ben Cheema have each been hired for the newly created role of manager of distribution sales and marketing. In these positions, Lonoza and Cheema “will be responsible for identifying and executing revenue generating opportunities across BDU and platform partners to drive subscriber growth and reduce churn,” the release explains.

Prior to joining Super Channel, Lonoza worked most recently as channel manager for Telus Small Business Solutions. Previously, she was account sales manager at Bell Media’s Content Sales and Distribution department for seven years, where she managed development of sales strategies and plans across all Bell Media premium and specialty TV services, including HBO, Crave, TSN, Discovery Channel and CTV Specialty, and all major TV providers nationwide, according to the release.

Cheema brings extensive experience in affiliate sales training to his new role at Super Channel, having most recently worked as manager, training affiliate sales, at Bell Media, where he developed and implemented sales strategies to drive growth for the company, the release says.

“I am excited to welcome Stacey, Eva and Ben to the team and look forward to the ways in which they will bring their knowledge and expertise to help grow Super Channel’s subscriber base, consumer awareness and digital footprint,” McDonald said.

These appointments were also effective as of July 24 and are based in Toronto.
