Super Channel puts the spotlight on timely and award-winning docs

EDMONTON — Super Channel announced today it is the exclusive home of several award-winning and headline-making documentaries, which are currently available on Super Channel Fuse, streaming and on demand.

The documentary The State of Texas vs. Melissa explores the real-life saga of Melissa Lucio (above), who was sentenced to death in 2008 for killing her young daughter. As the first Hispanic woman to be sentenced to death in the state of Texas, her case has been making headlines recently and has gained the support of The Innocence Project and Kim Kardashian.

“For fifteen years she has been awaiting her fate, and she now faces her last appeal. Melissa maintains her innocence and is now fighting to stop her April 27 execution date,” Super Channel’s press release reads.

The recent Canadian Screen Award winner for best documentary program, Catching a Serial Killer: Bruce McArthur is a Super Channel Original special that “unravels the twists and turns of the shocking investigation into Toronto’s most prolific serial killer,” the press release says.

“Bruce McArthur was many things: friend, grandfather, mall Santa, landscaper, and a ruthless serial killer who buried body parts in the yards of his posh clientele. This is the true story of the race to catch him.”

Other documentaries currently available on Super Channel Fuse and On Demand include Bisping, a Super Channel Original production from Score G Productions, which recently secured the top overall documentary spot on both the UK and U.S. iTunes charts, according to Super Channel’s press release.

“After a tumultuous decade-long career filled with injuries and missed opportunities, the 38-year-old UFC middleweight finally got his due, and he plans to go out swinging. Underneath Michael Bisping’s loud and brash bravado that has become synonymous with the fighter’s outspoken personality in the world of UFC, lies a gentle and caring man. But in order to survive in such a savage alpha male sport he must flick that proverbial switch if he wants to be the best,” the release reads.

Additional documentaries on Super Channel Fuse and On Demand include Zappa, Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm, My Darling Vivian, Whatever it Takes: Connor McDavid, Hi, My Name is Dicky, Fred Penner: This is My World, and The Satanic Panic and the Religious Battle for the Imagination.

Super Channel is available via most cable providers across Canada as well as Amazon Prime Video Channels and Apple TV+.
