EDMONTON – Canadian pay TV network Super Channel on Monday announced the launch of its new streaming app Super Channel+, which is available now on the Roku platform in Canada.
The app offers thousands of hours of commercial-free on-demand programming including original movies, exclusive series, favourite films, docuseries, documentaries and esports programming, with content available from four diverse channels — Super Channel Fuse, Super Channel Heart & Home, Super Channel Vault and GINX Esports TV Canada.
“We are thrilled to launch Super Channel+ on Canada’s top connected TV platform,” Don McDonald, president and CEO of Super Channel, said in a press release. “With the addition of Roku, we are expanding our reach and making it even easier for viewers to access our diverse range of exceptional content. We are committed to making Super Channel discoverable to as many viewers across the country as possible and this is a significant step in that process.”
Canadian users of Roku streaming players and Roku TV models can subscribe to the Super Channel+ app and add it to their home screen directly from the Channel Store on the Roku platform. New subscribers can enjoy a 30-day free trial, the press release says.
“We are committed to giving our Canadian users unbeatable access to TV and movies they love — and introducing them to content they can’t wait to discover,” said Mary-Anne Taylor, Roku’s head of content distribution in Canada. “With its wide variety and breadth of programming, Super Channel+ is the perfect addition to the Roku platform.”
Some of the content available via the Super Channel+ app includes the fan favourite series When Calls the Heart, including an exclusive season 10 after-show featuring interviews with the cast, as well as true crime docuseries Finally Caught and new Super Channel original crime drama Clean Sweep.
In addition, the four-part historical drama documentary Royal Mob, announced by Super Channel also on Monday, will be added to the Super Channel+ lineup later this fall. This docu-drama from Entertainment One, produced by Nutopia, “tells the saga of the extended royal family — dubbed by Queen Victoria ‘The Royal Mob’ — that once ruled the whole of Europe, and how their loves, marriages and feuds triggered World War I,” reads a synopsis. Royal Mob will make its exclusive Canadian premiere on Super Channel Fuse on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
