Sundance Channel rises in Canada

TORONTO – Corus Entertainment is adding Sundance Channel to its portfolio of Canadian specialty services.

After finalizing a licensing agreement with Cablevision’s Rainbow Media, Corus announced Tuesday that the channel will launch on March 1, 2010.  A Corus spokesperson confirmed that it is the rebrand of its Drive In Classics movie channel.

Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel features a range of programming from niche, genre-focused cinema to socially provocative films, documentaries and original series.

“Sundance Channel is a unique movies and lifestyle channel that will provide a diverse and engaging selection of films, documentaries and original programs that are typically not offered by other services in Canada,” said Corus president and CEO John Cassaday, in the announcement. “Corus is proud of the opportunity to launch this world-renowned brand in Canada and enhance the quality and breadth of programming for our audiences.”

Corus also confirmed that it will switch diginet Sex TV to W Movies early in the new year.
