Sunco Communication and Installation, an Edmonton-based independent business telecom and managed IT systems integrator, announced Thursday the acquisition of the Canadian on-premise PBX business of Colorado-based Zayo Group.
Zayo’s presence in the Canadian market came through its 2016 acquisition of MTS’s Allstream division, which Cartt wrote about here and here.
“This is an important and historic step in our company’s commitment to growing our Canadian PBX business,” Sunco CEO Mike Schoenberger said in a statement. “We are deeply rooted in our identity as a Canadian-based company. We understand the unique needs and aspirations of our clients, and our growth is intricately linked to fostering and advancing the telecommunications landscape in Canada. Sunco is not just a service provider; we are a catalyst for Canadian business success which will now be multiplied with the acquisition of Zayo’s Canadian on-premise PBX business.”
The acquisition expands Sunco’s presence to Ontario and Quebec, “which will not only ensure continued top-class service to Zayo’s current customers, but also enhance service to existing and future Sunco customers in central and eastern Canada,” according to Schoenberger.
While Sunco’s partnership with Zayo was already well established, the acquisition significantly deepens their combined strengths in Canada, Sunco’s press release says.
“Sunco’s acquisition of Zayo’s on-premise PBX Canadian business, including the seamless integration of acquired Zayo staff into Sunco’s operations, ensures a smooth transition for Zayo’s existing Canadian on-premise PBX customers,” said Michael McKerley, senior vice-president of managed services at Zayo, in the release. “We are proud of our dedication to serving our Canadian on-premise PBX customers for many years. We are confident Sunco will be a fantastic service provider to these customers and a great employer for the team members who will now be part of the Sunco family.”
Sunco’s Schoenberger added: “The acquisition also reinforces Sunco’s unwavering commitment to providing unparalleled service and cutting-edge products as Mitel’s top Canadian partner. Our partnership with Mitel is a testament to Sunco’s dedication to delivering top-tier solutions, setting industry standards and ensuring our clients receive the best telecommunications experience available.”
“I am excited that our Platinum Partner Sunco has been selected to acquire Zayo’s Canadian business. It is a real boost for our already strong partnership,” said Tom Lang, vice-president of Mitel Canada. “It will undoubtedly benefit existing and future customers whose needs in a rapidly changing technology-based communications world will demand the high level of product knowledge and personal service that Sunco provides. We look forward to working closely with Sunco to continue delivering world class communications solutions to our Canadian customers.”
