MONTREAL – Stingray has acquired the assets of Qello Concerts in a move that it says makes it the world’s leading distributor of SVoD concerts.
Founded in 2010, New-York based Qello Concerts is an over-the-top streaming service that stocks full-length, on-demand concerts and music documentaries from the 1920s to today, spanning musical genres from classic rock, to blues, pop, country, metal, folk, jazz, and indie, among others. Available on Amazon Channels, Apple TV, Roku, Google TV, Samsung Smart TVs, mobile devices and on the web, the service reaches users in more than 160 countries.
Stingray said Wednesday that the deal adds 2,000 concerts and music documentaries to its library and grows its SVoD subscriber base by more than 70,000.
"The acquisition of Qello Concerts confirms our position as the market leader in music SVoD services worldwide following the successful launch of Stingray Classica, Stingray DJAZZ, and Stingray Karaoke with major providers such as Amazon Channels and Comcast," said Stingray president, co-founder and CEO Eric Boyko, in the news release. "We see this agreement as a way forward to deliver on our mission of becoming the destination for consumers worldwide who want to discover and enjoy music across all platforms on all of their devices."
