Stephanie Smyth joins 640 Toronto

TORONTO – Veteran radio newshound Stephanie Smyth is back on Toronto radio.

Smyth was with 680 News from its 1993 launch as an all-news outlet until 2003 when she bolted for Global Television as news director. That particular marriage didn’t last as Smyth was let go by Global earlier this year.

She returns to 640 Toronto as a reporter.

“With more than 16 years of news and news programming experience to her credit, Ms. Smyth is an award-winning media veteran who brings a wealth of experience to her work in the radio and television industry,” says the AM 640 Toronto announcement.

Smyth (no relation to Dick) has done everything including on-air news reporting, anchoring and assignment editor roles. “Insightful, with a unique ability to capture the essence of a story, she has an enviable brand recognition factor as a former on-air personality,” says the release.

In 1999, she rose to senior levels with her appointment as news director at 680News where she led award-winning coverage of the 2000 U.S. presidential election, as well as the tumultuous events of 9/11.

During her time there, 680News become the first radio station in Canada to capture the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the world.
