Standard’s Have A Heart Radiothon raises over $207,000

KELOWNA – The third annual "Have A Heart" Radiothon has raised over $207,000 for the various hospital foundations in B.C.’s Okanagan valley.

The money was raised during a two-day campaign, February 9th & 10th. All of the money raised will stay in the local communities to purchase equipment for the regional hospitals’ paediatrics’ wards and to upgrade neo-natal intensive care units.

"On behalf of the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, we are delighted to thank Sun FM for raising much-needed funds for equipment that will help save babies lives, here in Kelowna as well as Penticton and Vernon. Our partnership with Sun FM shows how important it is to work hand-in-hand with the media in our efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare in our institution and throughout the region," said Sarah Nelems, executive director of Kelowna General Hospital’s Foundation.

"Our ‘Have a Heart’ Radiothon shows the power of community from both our listeners and employees alike. The value of local radio to our cities is priceless during events like this," says Mark Burley group program director B.C. Interior.

During the radiothon, on-air hosts encouraged our audience to contribute $12 a month, making them a member of the "Have a Heart" Club. Listeners were prompted to make a difference after hearing moving stories told by staff, families and hospital staff whose lives have been touched by experiences at their local hospital.
