YELLOWKNIFE – SSi Micro has rolled out new lower rates for its mobile plans in a move that it says significantly undercuts “the principal competitor in the North.”

A new plan aimed higher usage customers costs $110 per month for 5 GB of data, while customers who purchase additional data may pick up 100 MB for $2.50.  In addition, each minute beyond those included in a plan now costs 6 cents for Canada-wide calling.

“We have always been committed to providing the best possible service for our customers, and in that respect, we continue to fight hard for consumers and for fair competition in the North,” said SSi founder and CEO Jeff Philipp, in the news release.  “From day one, our mobile rates have been very competitive compared to any provider in Canada – not just in the North. And judging by the number of new customers moving to SSi Mobile, it is clear the residents of Nunavut agree. Our new rate plans are even more competitive. We continue our efforts to bridge the digital gap with the south and deliver the affordable service that Nunavummiut deserve.”
