YELLOWKNIFE – SSi Mobile is helping Nunavut youth in crisis to quickly and discreetly connect to the Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone.
Noting that many young people would rather write than speak about their problem, the wireless provider said that users can connect users to the Crisis Text Line simply by texting a message to the short-code phone number 686868. The Crisis Text Line requires no data plan, internet connection or app, and is available in all Nunavut communities.
“SSi has a long history of supporting youth programs in Canada’s North. Having grown up in a small community in the Northwest Territories, I am very familiar with the challenges and hardships that families face, and in particular how these can affect young people”, said founder and CEO Jeff Philipp, in the news release. “Collaborating with Kids Help Phone to provide this critical access to their Crisis Text Line is, without question, an important initiative that we are very proud to be part of.”
“Kids Help Phone has been speaking with young people every day, in communities across Canada since 1989, adapting and innovating to provide them with the mental health support solutions that suit them best,” added Kids Help Phone president and CEO Katherine Hay. “With the introduction of Crisis Text Line, we set out to meet youth where they need us most, and the response has shown that this is a vital support service for young people in Canada.”
