Spring radio rankings: CBC moves in to top spot in Vancouver, Calgary


TORONTO – Rogers-owned easy-listening pop music station CHFI-FM held on to top spot in the Toronto radio market with a 13.1% share, down slightly from the winter period’s first place 15.8% share, according to the Spring 2012 portable people meter (PPM) report released by BBM Canada.

For the 13 week period from February 27 through May 27, 2012, Toronto’s second spot went to CBC Radio One (CBLA-FM) with a 10.1% share, while Bell Media’s CHUM-FM rounded out the market’s top three stations with a 9.7% share.

CBC Radio One (CBU) moved into first place in Vancouver with a 10.9% share, followed closely by Bell Media-owned soft rock station CHQM-FM with a 10.7% share.

CBC Radio One (CBR) also took spot in Calgary with a 10.4% share of the market, though Corus’ news talk CHQR-FM was close behind with a 10.3% share.  Corus-owned news talk station CHED captured the Edmonton market with a 10.0% share, followed by country station CISN-FM with 8.8%.

Astral’s news talk station CJAD continued to dominate Montreal’s Anglo market with a 23.4% share.  Second place was split between Astral’s Virgin Radio 96 (CJFM-FM) and Cogeco’s adult contemporary station CKBE-FM which both garnered a 17.6% share of that market.
