VANCOUVER – Rogers’ newest all-sports radio station Sportsnet 650 will debut September 4 in Vancouver with some familiar voices.
On Wednesday, Sportsnet confirmed that Sportsnet’s Starting Lineup with Cybulski, Darling and Laurence will air Monday to Friday from 6 to 10 AM PT, featuring veterans James Cybulski, Steve Darling and Mira Laurence.
Cybulski (pictured left) is an award-winning broadcaster who brings 25 years of experience to the role. After working in Vancouver from 2000 – 2004 as bureau chief for The Score, he returned to the west coast in 2013 to join Sportsnet Pacific and most recently worked with the NEWS 1130 team in Vancouver.
A veteran sportscaster, Laurence (pictured in middle) spent more than a decade covering Vancouver sports, including 10 years as head of the sports department for CTV Vancouver Island. She is returning to the broadcasting world after spending the past several years in roles including the partnership development officer for Vikes Athletics and Recreation at the University of Victoria and most recently as the executive director of HeadWay, the Victoria Epilepsy and Parkinson’s Centre.
B.C. resident Darling (pictured right) has been a news anchor and sports reporter with stints at NEWS 1130, BCTV and Global BC Morning News, plus has hosted numerous live events including the announcement that Vancouver had secured the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
“James, Steve and Mira are a dynamic trio with a tremendous amount of experience and sports knowledge that will be invaluable to Sportsnet 650, the morning show and, most importantly, sports fans in Vancouver,” said Sportsnet 650 program director Craig MacEwen, in the news release. “These three talents are not only excellent at what they do, but they are also exemplary members of the community, giving back through various charitable efforts. We are thrilled to have them on the Sportsnet 650 team.”
Rogers bought the station from Newfoundland Capital Corporation in April, and said then that it would air Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays games, plus the MLB post-season. More details on its programming lineup will be announced at a later date.
