TORONTO — Ahead of Rogers Sports and Media’s upfront presentation Tuesday, Sportsnet today revealed it is building a new immersive broadcast studio for its NHL production team which will be located at Rogers Campus at 333 Bloor St. E. in Toronto and will be ready for the 2021-22 NHL season.
Designed to be customizable, the brand-new space will “facilitate unique content creation, real-time data integration, and exclusive sponsorship opportunities,” reads Sportsnet’s press release.
The Sportsnet team has been operating out of a studio at Toronto’s CBC headquarters, which was built in 2014, coinciding with the first season of its $5.2 billion, 12-year NHL rights deal.
A sneak peek of what the studio is anticipated to look like can be seen here. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall. Above is a screen cap of the promotional video.
“Sportsnet’s new studio will be on the cutting-edge of technology and infrastructure, including multiple set areas with moveable pieces, two brand new control rooms with IP-based audio and video, high-tech monitor walls with industry-leading ‘always-on’ display, real-time data integration, LED lighting, and virtual set extension capabilities that will allow for reimagined storytelling,” says the press release. “Sportsnet will leverage all of this technology for new and unique ways to produce content, entertain fans and provide partners more customizable opportunities for branded integration.”
In addition, having the NHL on Sportsnet team located at Rogers Campus “will bring the network’s entire production operations under one roof, allowing for more opportunity and integration across all content platforms and sports properties,” says the release.
