TORONTO — Rogers Sports and Media announced today sports media personality Cabral Richards (better known as Cabbie) is returning to Canada to join Sportsnet as executive producer of sports betting content.
“There are few media personalities anywhere who have achieved instant first-name recognition and who resonate strongly with a diverse set of audiences,” said Andrew Sutherland, vice-president of original content at Sportsnet, in a press release.
“Cabbie’s style, enthusiasm, and originality are unrivaled, and his addition to Sportsnet is another exciting step in our expansion into sports betting and continued content innovation.”
Most recently, Cabbie was co-host of B/R Betting Show for Bleacher Report, part of the Turner Sports and Entertainment Network. He previously worked for Bell Media’s TSN on SportsCentre, hosting a weekly segment called Cabbie Presents. Prior to that, he hosted and produced his Cabbie on the Street segments for The Score, which was later acquired by Rogers and rebranded as Sportsnet 360.
“Having an opportunity to come home and help build the betting portfolio, social experiences, and ride the highs and lows of wagering with Sportsnet has me hyped like hitting a 15 leg parlay!” Cabbie said in the release.
“Working with Bleacher Report Betting in Las Vegas was an invaluable experience, one that I will cherish. But now I’m excited to return to Sportsnet and reunite with my good friends Tim Micallef, Donnovan Bennett, and a whole host of other really smart people who have us in a great position to put Sportsnet on the board in this space. I can’t wait to start engaging with the betting community, which has been thriving under wraps in Canada for decades. Let’s get it!”
In addition to leading sports betting content at Sportsnet, “fans can expect Cabbie to impact all of Sportsnet’s properties and platforms with his imaginative approach to content production and delivery,” the release says.
“More details around Sportsnet’s content plans for sports betting will be revealed as legalization of single-event wagering rolls out in provinces across Canada.”
