HAMILTON – Source Cable staff along with about 90 students from Hillfield Strathallan College participated in the Ride for Diabetes Research this past Thursday at Jackson Square in Hamilton. Following the event Source Cable made a $100,000 donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JRDF) on behalf of its owner and president Dan Campbell.
The foundation’s mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications through the support of research. In Canada alone 300,000 people live with type 1 diabetes.
The Ride for Diabetes brings corporate Canada together in a friendly competition to see who can show the most team spirit and raise the most money. Teams consist of five riders, with each team member taking a turn riding a stationary bike for seven minutes, over the course of 40 minutes. Teams ride in one hour intervals, so participation fits into any schedule and makes for a great teambuilding event. Last year’s Ride for Diabetes Research raised more than $7.2 million nationally and the goal this year is $7.9 million.
