TORONTO – Sony introduced its new premium streaming video service to Canada this week, making hundreds of movies in English and French available on its current network-enabled devices.
The service, called Video On Demand powered by Qriocity, stocks content from NBC Universal Television Distribution, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment LLC and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, as well as films from local studios. Users need the 2010 and 2011 versions of Sony’s network-enabled Bravia televisions, Blu-ray Disc players, or Blu-ray Disc Home Theatre systems.
Rental prices for HD content range from $4.99 – $5.99, while SD content is priced from $3.99 – $4.99. After renting a film, consumers have up to 30 days to start watching their movie, and once playback is started, up to 24 or 48 hours to watch it as many times as they like.
Video On Demand powered by Qriocity launched in Japan on January 26, and is also available in the U.S., France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K.
