NEW YORK, NY – British subscription video-on-demand streaming service BritBox has hit a quarter million (250,000) subscribers, just under a year after launching in the U.S., and two weeks after expanding into Canada.

The service did not make specific Canadian numbers available.  BritBox said that it has doubled its content since launch, exceeding 3,600 hours of British programming; has premiered at least one key title every week; and, committed to a 50% increase in original and acquired programming investment for the upcoming year.

“It’s been an incredible year.  We have listened to our users, been responsive to their suggestions, and opened up a whole new world of British content for U.S. and Canadian viewers to enjoy”, said BritBox North America president Soumya Sriraman, in the news release.  “Building on this positive start, next year we plan to invest even more in both original and acquired British programming and make a step change in our marketing investment to spread the BritBox word.  I can’t wait to see what year two brings.”

BritBox is available in the U.S. for $6.99 per month after a 7-day free introductory trial on Roku, Apple TV, all iOS and Android devices, Chromecast, and online, plus offered as an Amazon Channel available for Prime members.  In Canada, BritBox is now available for $8.99 per month after a 7-day free introductory trial on Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, all iOS and Android Devices, and online.

Created by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and ITV, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster, BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.
