TORONTO – Legendary, bombastic (and now retired) former Toronto radio broadcaster Dick Smyth will be a guest host this week on Corus Radio’s AM640.
He will co-host the station’s afternoon drive show with news director Stephanie Smyth, Wednesday, December 13 and Thursday, December 14 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Spoiler Alert. "With surnames that are conspicuous in their similarity, Stephanie and Dick will reveal on-air, once and for all, what, if any, relationship they share," says the press release. Despite the same last name – and spelling – the assumption is that the two are father-daughter or some other relation, but they are not related at all.
Former news director at CHUM, Smyth (below) is renowned for his oft-imperious commentaries on-air and on-camera. Having started his career in the 1960s, Dick Smyth was the morning news announcer and commentator that hundreds of thousands of people woke up to every morning for years. He retired in 2001 and is currently living in Bracebridge with his wife.
“We are honoured to have Dick join us on AM640,” said Gord Harris, program director, AM640. “He has been an important part of this city’s fabric for years and someone we know our listeners are eager to hear from again. Having him co-host afternoon drive with Stephanie will certainly provide for some interesting programming.”
Stephanie Smyth is filling in for the vacationing Mike Stafford all week.
