TORONTO – Canadian drama leads the 2007 Gemini Award nominations with Slings & Arrows, season three receiving 14 nominations followed by ReGenesis with 12 nominations, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced today.
The 22nd annual Gemini Awards, which recognize the year’s best in Canadian English-language television, will be presented in Regina for the first time at the Conexus Arts Centre on October 28th, 2007. CBC Television joins the Academy as the broadcaster to celebrate this year’s outstanding achievements. Global will kick off the evening with its signature red carpet pre-show in a special broadcast of ET Canada at The Gemini Awards.
"This year represents an outstanding year in Canadian television," said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, in the press release. "The nominations, in all categories truly exemplify the unparalleled talent within our borders. The Gemini Awards are proud to showcase and celebrate these successes."
Other leading nominees include dramatic series Intelligence and news information series, the fifth estate, tied for 11 nominations each while Dragon Boys weighed in with nine nominations. The TV movie, Doomstown and dramatic series, Robson Arms, tied for seven nominations each. Other notables include six nominations each for comedic series, Corner Gas, dramatic mini series, Answered by Fire and performing arts program, Roxana; TV movies, Shades of Black, In God’s Country and The Robber Bride all scored five nominations each.
The Canadian industry will gather in Toronto at The Liberty Grand on October 15th, 16th and 17th to honour and celebrate the news, documentary and sports awards, the lifestyle, children’s and youth awards and the drama, comedy and variety awards.
