Skype brings iPhone app to Canada

SAN JOSE, CA – The Skype for iPhone application is now available for free at the App Store in Canada, allowing iPhone and iPod touch users to take their Skype conversations with them while mobile.

Skype is software that enables individuals and businesses to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages, and share files with other Skype users.

The app requires a Wi-Fi connection to make free Skype-to-Skype calls or low-cost Skype calls to mobiles and landlines. It uses Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE (based on the fastest connection available) to sign into Skype, update a contact list, maintain and update presence and send/receive instant messages.

“With more than 6 million downloads from the App Store so far, the Skype for iPhone application is one of our most popular mobile offerings so we’re delighted to say that Canadians can now also carry their Skype conversations with them wherever they go”, said Tom Yeung, director of market development, Americas, in the press release.
