Six letters dropped + new reality programming = new Bio

TORONTO – On Monday, the Biography Channel kicks off a comprehensive rebranding of the network, now to be called Bio, the network for ‘Great People Watching’.

Bio will feature a new on-air look, logo (below), and shift in focus to reality programming and features on current newsmakers around the world. “Bio will provide Canadians with top-quality programming and special series that connect viewers with top personalities – from the Hollywood tabloid and pop culture favorites to the business and political juggernauts of the day,” says the release.

“We are excited to build on our already successful brand with the new look and tag line,” said Alain Strati, general manager of the Rogers Media-owned category two digi-net. “Bio prides itself on providing programming that is both compelling and entertaining and our expanding line up will provide a fresh new take on the current names and hottest stories in the news in a way that will appeal to a wider audience.”

Bio will spice up the weekend programming line up starting Saturday, February 23 with the introduction of the new series Rock of Love (which also airs on Rogers Broadcasting’s Citytv) and The Surreal Life for a look at some former superstars and B-list celebrities. The three-hour block will take place on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Rock of Love, the ultimate “bachelor” reality series, with Bret Michaels, the front man of 80s glam band Poison (albeit with less lipstick and a few more pounds), as the prize. Viewers will find out how low, er, far, women will go “for true love or rock star infatuation.”

“From days on the tour bus to all-night benders with the band, these brave women enter the indulgent scene of rock celebs taking part in various challenges to determine if they have what it takes to win the rocker’s heart or if they will be booed off the stage,” says the release.
