Sigma buys into C-COR

TORONTO and State College, PA – C-COR announced today that Sigma Systems has purchased a joint interest in the intellectual property rights of C-COR’s Service Provisioning Manager and Service Activation Manager products.

The companies will jointly own product intellectual property rights and Sigma will assume customer licensing and maintenance contracts as well as offer current customers the choice of remaining on the existing C-COR product platform or migrating to the Sigma platform.

Additionally, Sigma, of Toronto, and C-COR have entered into a joint marketing and sales agreement aimed at better serving global customers, increasing market opportunities and expediting the deployment of additional capabilities into existing product lines.

C-COR will continue to expand its role in the OSS business through the company’s Key Distribution Center, Policy Service Manager, Mobile Workforce Manager, Network Service Manager and CableEdge products.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed this quarter. Upon closing of the transaction, Sigma will obtain an exclusive interest from C-COR in the SAM and SPM products and assume all of the service provider licensing and software maintenance contracts for these products.

The co-marketing and co-selling joint collaboration "will leverage the synergies among their respective OSS product lines to expedite the additional functionalities and capabilities required to meet the evolving needs of cable operators," says the press release.

"For customers of our SAM and SPM, folding the technology and support of these products under Sigma Systems will provide them with broader flexibility and choice in service activation and provisioning functionality. For the cable industry, applying the combined experience and expertise of C-COR and Sigma to the OSS requirements of future converged network architectures will speed innovation and provide the shortest path to a fully integrated OSS solution for voice, video, and data over wireline or wireless networks," said Robert Cruickshank, vice-president, OSS Market Strategy, C-COR.

"As a result of this agreement, Sigma has a total of 47 Deployments Worldwide, 20+ VoIP deployments, and 20M subscribers managed across Voice, Video, Data, ISP, Wireless and emerging markets," added Andy Jasuja, chairman and CEO of Sigma Systems.
