Showcase reveals fall roster of new dramas, returning hits

TORONTO — Showcase announced the premiere dates for its fall season of programming, with bold new dramas joining its returning roster of smash-hit series and a Star Wars movie marathon scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend.

New to the Showcase lineup is the thrilling new eight-episode series The Sinner, which stars Jessica Biel as a young mother who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, this utterly surprising crime thriller also stars Bill Pullman as an investigator who finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Together, they delve into the depths of her psyche to reveal the violent secrets hidden in her past. The Sinner debuts Monday, August 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Also premiering this fall on Showcase is the new 10-episode series Marvel’s Runaways, which explores the younger side of the Marvel Universe in a coming-of-age action tale starring Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin and Allegra Acosta. These young actors portray six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but must unite against a common foe — their parents — portrayed by Angel Parker, Ryan Sands, Brittany Ishibashi, James Yaegashi, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, Brigid Brannagh, Kevin Weisman, Ever Carradine and James Marsters. Marvel’s Runaways premieres Sunday, November 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Then comes the Canadian broadcast premiere of the fourth season of Amazon Studios’ Transparent, from acclaimed creator Jill Soloway. This Golden Globe-winning series follows the life of retired college professor and transgender woman Mort Pfefferman, portrayed by award-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor, who tells his family he will live openly as a woman named Maura. This season, Maura’s family embarks on a spiritual and political journey as they dig deep into their family’s history. Fans can watch the first three seasons of Transparent on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Showcase, leading up to the season four premiere on Friday, September 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back episodes.

As previously announced, Corus Entertainment secured the exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to the Star Wars movie franchise. This Thanksgiving weekend (October 6-9), six films in the celebrated franchise will make their network debut on Showcase during an epic movie marathon including Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Further broadcast details will be announced by Showcase at a later date.

Among Showcase’s returning hit series, season three of Supergirl will premiere on Monday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET, and season two of time-travelling drama Travelers will air starting Monday, October 16 at 9 p.m. ET. Season three of critically acclaimed hacker series Mr. Robot will also premiere in October, and a new installment of the chilling Channel Zero anthology series will round out Showcase’s fall schedule. Further broadcast details for Mr. Robot and Channel Zero will be announced at a later date.

Showcase also announced it will offer a month-long free channel preview from September 30 to October 31 to coincide with its premium fall season schedule.
