VANCOUVER – The best – or luckiest – show prep of all time landed Rock 101’s Brother Jake with the interview all Canadian media outlets were searching for: The Norwegian coach who gave his ski pole to Canadian cross-country skier Sara Renner.
A lucky call to the right Norwegian netted the Bro Jake show the personal cell phone number of the coach, who chatted with them Wednesday morning.
Renner was competing in the 6.6 km relay with Beckie Scott when Renner snapped a pole climbing a hill. Acting on the sport’s code of conduct, the Norwegian coach, Bjornar Hakensmoen, handed one of his to Renner, who managed to keep pace again, with Scott then regaining the team’s placing during the next leg.
The duo, as most know, went on to the silver medal. The Norwegians finished fourth, the most agonizing athletic placing there is.
