Short form streamer Quibi shutting down

LOS ANGELES — Less than seven months after its launch in early April, the short-form, mobile-focused streaming service Quibi is shutting down, according to reports by The Wall Street Journal – confirmed by a Q&A interview between its leadership and Deadline.

Bell announced in March an agreement with Quibi to provide daily Canadian news and sports content for the platform, in addition to being Quibi’s exclusive Canadian marketing partner in the telecom category. “We’re in touch with Quibi management and discussing next steps,” a Bell spokesperson told Cartt.ca.

Blue Ant Media-owned studio Look Mom! Productions was also supposed to produce a new animated series for Quibi.

Quibi (which stood for “quick bites”) was founded in August 2018 by former Disney and DreamWorks executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and was helmed by former eBay CEO and HP chief Meg Whitman.
