Shaw’s Saskatoon channel boosts local morning content

SASKATOON – Shaw Cable’s community channel in Saskatoon is boosting its morning presence, perhaps to better compete with other BDUs like SaskTel’s Max TV.

Shaw TV Channel 10 will air local weather information updated every 10 minutes from Environment Canada. It will also simulcast live broadcasts of 650 CHOM on weekday mornings, airing the Rawlco station’s popular morning drive shows The Brent Loucks Show and John Gormley Live. There will also be live traffic and weather cameras providing up-to-the-minute information. Shaw will also produce daily magazine segments featuring local events, personalities, and issues.

“Shaw has a history of providing leading-edge, local programming in our communities across Western Canada. We’re delighted to introduce this exciting new format to our cable customers in Saskatoon and are confident that this will become a daily destination channel for all our customers,” said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications Inc. in a statement. “We’ll be local 24/7/365.”

Rawlco Radio president Gordon Rawlinson is happy about the deal. “Our new partnership with Shaw Communications is an exciting opportunity for Rawlco Radio and CKOM. We are pleased to partner with Shaw as we extend our morning programming to television and offer Saskatoon residents greater access to the information they need to start their day, whether listening on the radio, online, or now watching live on Shaw Channel 10.”
